Chief Accountant (Accounting Operations)

Summary
- The Chief Accountant will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, general ledger integrity, reconciliations, fixed assets, and transaction controls across the group.
- The role will ensure accurate and timely postings, strong documentation, and reliable financial records while supporting the Financial Controller during month-end close and audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee accounting entries for sales, expenses, accruals, prepayments, and journals, ensuring proper approvals and supporting documentation.
- Maintain general ledger integrity, including accurate coding, timely postings, and resolution of suspense items.
- Execute and supervise ke bank, clearing account, payment gateway, and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of reconciling items.
- Maintain accurate balance sheet schedules, working papers, and audit trails.
- Manage the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation.
- Support month-end close by preparing trial balance schedules, journal packs, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure proper revenue and expense cut-offs in coordination with AR, AP, and business units.
- Strengthen accounting processes, documentation, controls, and posting discipline.
- Work with Tech/Data to improve automation, reduce manual errors, and resolve system-related accounting issues.
- Support Internal Control reviews and ensure timely resolution of accounting-related findings.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent strongly preferred; part-qualified candidates may be considered based on experience.
- 10+ years’ experience in accounting operations, including journals, reconciliations, and general ledger management.
- Experience in retail, e-commerce, distribution, or other high-volume environmentsis an advantage.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems, spreadsheets, payment gateways, and POS reconciliations.
- Strong knowledge ofaccruals, prepayments, cut-offs, fixed assets, and financial controls.
- Strong attention to detail, organisation, ownership, and ability to work under pressure.
- High level of confidentiality, documentation discipline, and audit readiness.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time hybrid role with occasional travel.
- Peak workload occurs duringmonth-end close and audit periods.
