Senior Accountant

Location: Omole phase 2, Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary 

  • We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to oversee the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, tax compliance, reconciliations, and statutory financial obligations.
  • The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of Nigerian accounting standards, taxation, financial controls, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and reconciliations.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Prepare management accounts and provide financial insights to management for decision-making.
  • Monitor cash flow, income, expenses, budgets, and financial performance.
  • Prepare and review bank, supplier, customer, and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Nigerian tax laws and statutory requirements.
  • Prepare and file applicable tax returns, including VAT, Withholding Tax (WHT), PAYE, and Companies Income Tax (CIT).
  • Monitor tax liabilities and ensure timely remittance of taxes to the relevant authorities.
  • Coordinate with tax consultants, auditors, and regulatory authorities when required.
  • Maintain proper tax records, schedules, certificates, and documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and advise management on their potential impact on the business.
  • Support tax audits, financial audits, and statutory reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant requirements of FIRS, LIRS/state tax authorities, CAC, and other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets, financial forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Establish and maintain effective financial controls to prevent errors, fraud, and financial losses.
  • Review financial transactions and ensure they are properly authorized, classified, and recorded.
  • Supervise junior accounting staff and provide guidance on accounting procedures.
  • Support payroll processing and ensure appropriate statutory deductions are calculated and remitted.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and financial efficiency.
  • Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • ICAN, ACCA, ACA or equivalent professional qualification is an added advantage; preferably qualified or at an advanced stage.
  • Minimum of 4–7 years' relevant accounting experience, preferably in a structured organization.
  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and statutory compliance.
  • Practical experience with VAT, WHT, PAYE, CIT, tax filings, and tax reconciliations.
  • Experience dealing with FIRS and relevant state tax authorities.
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience with accounting software/ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, reconciliations, budgeting, and audit processes.
  • Ability to analyze financial information and identify discrepancies.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict reporting and compliance deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
