Sonographer


Location: Victoria Island, Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time


Purpose of Role


Perform high‑quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations, producing images that aid physicians in diagnosing and monitoring medical conditions across a range of patient populations.


Key Responsibilities


Patient Preparation & Care – Verify patient identity, explain procedures, obtain informed consent, and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the exam.

Equipment Operation – Select appropriate transducers, adjust machine settings, and operate ultrasound equipment to capture optimal images of organs, tissues, and blood flow.

Image Acquisition – Conduct scans of abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, vascular, cardiac, musculoskeletal, and small‑parts structures, following standardized protocols and adjusting technique for patient size, age, and pathology.

Image Analysis & Documentation – Review images for diagnostic quality, annotate findings, measure structures, and prepare preliminary reports for radiologists or referring clinicians.

Quality Assurance – Perform daily equipment checks, calibrate devices, and maintain records of maintenance and service to ensure compliance with safety and accreditation standards.

Patient Safety & Infection Control – Adhere to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles, use protective barriers, and follow hand‑hygiene and disinfection protocols for transducers and work areas.

Collaboration & Communication – Work closely with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff to discuss findings, answer clinical questions, and assist with interventional ultrasound procedures (e.g., biopsies, drainages).

Record Keeping & PACS Management – Enter patient data, upload images to Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), and ensure accurate, timely documentation in electronic health records (EHR).

Education & Training – Mentor new sonographers, radiology students, and technologists; stay current with advances in ultrasound technology and participate in continuing education and certification maintenance.

Regulatory Compliance – Follow hospital policies, HIPAA privacy rules, and relevant local, state, and federal regulations governing diagnostic imaging.


Required Skills & Qualifications

Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field from an accredited program.

Certification: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) by

ARDMS (or equivalent) in at least one specialty (e.g., Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular).

Licensure: State licensure (if required) and current BLS/CPR certification.

Experience: 4–5 years of clinical sonography experience in a hospital setting (preferred).

Technical Skills: Proficiency with ultrasound equipment (e.g., GE, Philips, Siemens), PACS, and EHR systems.

Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, attention to detail, problem‑solving mindset, and ability to work independently under pressure.

Must be a Male, reside around island environs.
