Accountant

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to manage financial records, ensure regulatory compliance, and support financial planning for our operations within the Nigerian gas industry.
The ideal candidate will have strong accounting expertise, industry experience in gas or LPG retailand a solid understanding of Nigerian financial regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting:
Maintain accurate financial records, ledgers, and accounts in line with accounting standards
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and management accounts
Prepare annual financial statements (Income Statement, Statement of Financial Position, Cash Flow).
Periodic Preparation of Board presentation report to the members of the Board of Directors.
Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections
Oversee payroll processing and statutory deductions
Prepare budgets, forecasts, and cash flow statements
Track operational costs and support cost control initiatives.
Compliance:
Ensure adherence to accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS)
Ensure all Tax regulations are adhered to.
Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax regulations (VAT, PAYE)
Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory bodies.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Collate budget data and Consolidation of Corporate budget.
Preparation of monthly variance analysis report.
Data Analysis:
Analyse financial data to identify trends, costs, revenues, and provide insights for decision-making.
Effectively management of the company fixed asset using Asset Register.
Financial Auditing:
Support the external audits exercise within the business
Support the internal audits exercise within the business.
Cash Flow Management:
Monitor and control cash flow activities.
Prepare periodic Rolling Cashflow Plan for decision making.
Effective Management of Banking relationships
Effective Investment of idle funds for proper interest generation.
General Ledger:
Manage and reconcile general ledger accounts and financial transactions (Account Payable/Account Receivable).
Post all payments and income-related financial transactions into the accounting software.
Taxation:
Prepare monthly tax remittance schedules for WHT and VAT
Prepare and file monthly and annual tax returns, ensuring compliance.
Effectively support all tax related tax audits with the Nigeria Revenue Service
Attend to any other task as provided by management.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum of 5 years’ proven experience as an Accountant
Experience in the Nigerian gas industry is required
Experience in LPG retail operations is an added advantage
ICAN certification is a plus
Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and financial regulations
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail
Strong analytical and reporting skills
