 Head of Supply Chain

Reports To: GM, Commercial

  

Job Summary:

The Head of Supply Chain will lead and optimise the organisation’s end-to-end supply chain functions to ensure efficient, cost-effective and timely delivery of goods and services. This role includes developing and implementing strategic supply chain plans, managing procurement and supplier relationships, overseeing logistics and inventory, and driving continuous improvement across supply chain processes. The position requires strong leadership to build and mentor high-performing teams, align supply chain activities with business objectives, and deliver measurable operational results.

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Develop and implement the overall supply chain strategy aligned with the company’s business goals, cost targets and growth plans.
  • Translate high-level strategic objectives into actionable supply chain initiatives and KPIs.

2. End-to-End Supply Chain Management

  • Lead and oversee all supply chain functions – including procurement, logistics, inventory, warehousing, demand planning, and distribution.
  • Ensure optimal flow of goods and materials from suppliers through to internal operations and customer delivery.

3. Supplier & Vendor Management

  • Establish and maintain strong supplier relationships.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing to ensure cost-effective sourcing and reliable supply of raw materials and services.

4. Operational Coordination

  • Drive operational excellence in logistics, warehousing, and inventory management.
  • Oversee demand planning, forecasting, and material procurement to prevent stockouts or excess inventory.

5. Performance, Cost & KPI Monitoring

  • Set and monitor key metrics (delivery performance, cost efficiency, inventory turnover, lead times).
  • Use data to identify bottlenecks and drive continuous improvement across processes.

6. Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, industry quality standards, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage supply chain risks (disruptions, vendor risks, logistics challenges).

7. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with departments like Production/Operations, Finance, Sales, and Customer Service to support integrated planning.
  • Coordinate supply chain activities with business priorities and project deadlines.

8. Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the supply chain team.
  • Build capability through training, performance management, and succession planning.

Required Educational, Technical and Soft Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
  • 10–15+ years of progressive experience in supply chain, logistics, or operations.
  • At least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing large teams and budgets.
  • Experience in engineering, procurement and construction required
  • Master’s degree (MBA, MSc in Supply Chain/Operations/Logistics) is strongly preferred.
  • Professional certifications are an added advantage:
  • CSCP, CPIM, CPSM (APICS/ISM)
  • CILT, PMP, Six Sigma
  • Strong knowledge of end-to-end supply chain operations (procurement, planning, warehousing, logistics, distribution).
  • Experience in demand planning, forecasting, and inventory optimisation.
  • Solid understanding of supplier sourcing, contract negotiation, and vendor performance management.
  • Ability to manage logistics networks, transport optimisation, and 3PL providers.
  • Financial acumen to manage budgets, cost optimisation, and working capital.
  • Experience using ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools (Excel advanced, Power BI, Tableau).
  • Strong knowledge of risk management, compliance, and quality standards.
  • Experience leading process improvement and operational excellence initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma).
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop cross-functional teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
  • Results-driven with a strong focus on efficiency, service levels, and cost control.
  • Excellent negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
  • Strong business acumen and commercial mindset.
