Job Description
- The Mathematics Teacher is responsible for guiding students through numerical concepts, formulas, and analytical thinking. The role involves developing lesson plans, fostering a supportive classroom environment, and helping students build solid problem-solving skills for real-world application.
Core Responsibilities
- Lesson Delivery: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging mathematics lessons tailored to different learning styles and grade levels.
- Curriculum Alignment: Design coursework that meets institutional, state, or national educational standards.
- Assessment: Create, administer, and grade assignments, quizzes, and examinations to accurately measure student progress.
- Student Support: Provide extra help or remedial sessions for struggling students and challenge advanced learners.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment that encourages participation.
- Communication: Keep parents, guardians, and school administrators updated on student academic performance and behavioral progress.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Education (with a math concentration), or a closely related field. A Master’s degree is often preferred for advanced placement or senior levels.
- Certification: Valid teaching license, credential, or certification required by the local educational authority.
- Experience: 3 years of classroom teaching experience is preferred, though entry-level candidates with strong student-teaching backgrounds are regularly considered.
Required Skills:
- Subject Mastery: Deep understanding of mathematical principles across algebra, geometry, calculus, and statistics.
- Instructional Capability: Ability to break down complex mathematical theories into simple, digestible concepts.
- Technology Integration: Proficiency with educational tools like graphing calculators, interactive whiteboards, and learning management systems (LMS).
- Patience & Empathy: Strong interpersonal skills to support students who experience math-related anxiety.
- Organization: Excellent time management for grading, lesson planning, and curriculum tracking.
Other Requirements:
- Background Clearance: Successful completion of a criminal background check and child safety vetting.
- Extracurricular Support: Willingness to assist with school clubs, math competitions (e.g., Math Olympiads), or basic student counseling.
- Continuous Learning: Commitment to attending workshops and maintaining teaching credentials through ongoing professional development.
Remuneration & Benefits
- Salary Range: Minimum Salary of N150,000 / Month
- Standard Benefits: Typically includes health insurance, retirement or pension plan contributions, paid annual/sick leave, and professional development allowances.
