Job Description

Architect

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Employment Type: Full-time

Roles / Responsibilities

Design and Planning:

  • Meet with clients to understand project objectives, requirements, budget constraints, and timelines.
  • Develop architectural concepts, sketches, and preliminary designs.
  • Create detailed architectural drawings, blueprints, specifications, and 3D models.
  • Ensure designs are functional, aesthetically appealing, sustainable, and aligned with client expectations.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and site analyses to evaluate project viability.

Project Development:

  • Prepare design proposals, presentations, and project documentation.
  • Develop construction documents and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate architectural designs with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and civil engineering requirements.
  • Review and revise designs based on client feedback and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure project documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with industry standards.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure all designs comply with local regulations, building codes, health and safety standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Obtain necessary permits and approvals from relevant authorities.
  • Liaise with planning departments, regulatory agencies, and inspection authorities.
  • Stay updated on changes in construction laws, regulations, and industry standards.

Project Management:

  • Develop project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate activities among consultants, contractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
  • Manage project risks and resolve design or construction-related issues.
  • Conduct regular project meetings and provide progress updates to clients.

Construction Administration:

  • Visit construction sites to monitor  work quality and compliance with design specifications.
  • Review contractor submissions, shop drawings, and material samples.
  • Address construction challenges and provide technical guidance when required.
  • Conduct inspections and prepare site reports.

Sustainability and Innovation:

  • Integrate sustainable design principles and green building practices.
  • Evaluate innovative materials, technologies, and construction methods.
  • Promote environmentally responsible and energy-efficient design solutions.
  • Support certification efforts such as LEED, BREEAM, or other sustainability standards where applicable.

Key performance Indicators

  • Timely completion of architectural designs and project deliverables.
  • Compliance with applicable building codes and regulations.
  • Client satisfaction ratings.
  • Accuracy and quality of construction documentation.
  • Project budget adherence.
  • Reduction of redesign-related construction issues.
  • Successful permit approvals.
  • Achievement of sustainability objectives.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills (Preferred)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture (B.Arch) or Master's Degree in Architecture (M.Arch) from an accredited institution.
  • Proficiency in architectural design software such as:
  • AutoCAD
  • Revit
  • SketchUp
  • ArchiCAD
  • Lumion
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Understanding of construction methods, materials, and building systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.

Experience:

  • Typically 5-7 + years of architectural design and project management experience.
  • Experience in residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, or mixed-use projects.
